Andrew Broder and Dave King are gentleman-scholars of what blood sounds like. Each operates from his own roundhouse within a worldly network of musicians (many of them in/from Minneapolis) threading through jazz, rock, hip-hop, experimental, ambient, other — sometimes occupying a sovereign center and other times absorbed into what people once called “bands.”

This recording was inspired by an every-now-and-then series of live duo improvisations, originally centered around drums+turntable but gradually advancing toward other potentialities. At 36 minutes comprising three tracks, SWEEPS is a document of heady interactions (rather than ephemeral reactions) between two guys with deep toolkits, broad objections, and low thresholds for boredom. It works as a serial suite or as modular pieces built on intersectional ideas about rhythm, darkness, texture, flavor, atmosphere, persistence, surprise, and delight.
